I was never into working as a team. To be honest, I avoided it with all my might, especially in college (I used to beg my professors to let me work on projects alone). You could say that I defined “collaboration” as what I did to collaborate. Leave it to me to find the I in team.

But becoming a mom (and ahem! a little older) has helped me see the power of collaboration. Sometimes teamwork really does make the dream work.
 
I was thinking about this when we went into Chuck E. Cheese’s to celebrate its 40th birthday. Among all the exciting events, fun-filled activities, and deals for families nationwide, to commemorate 40 years of fun, Chuck E. Cheese’s hosted a world-record breaking party!

What does a record-breaking party entail? A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ record attempt!

We arrived around 7pm CST, ordered some yummy vegan pizza, and registered for the world-record breaking attempt (that was to happen at 7:40). We each got a wristband and an announcer helped us count down. There was plenty of time to eat and play games while we waited.

Just minutes before the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title attempt, we gathered in the VIP Birthday area and were part of the “Most People Blowing Party Blowers Simultaneously for 10 Seconds” world-record breaking event!

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ documents and holds records for diverse record-breaking WORLD achievements. Applicants must adhere to specific criteria and allowed formats to apply for a world record (and not be rejected): it must be measurable, breakable, standardizable (can be done universally), verifiable, one variable, and universal. In other words, if it’s harmful, subjective, you can’t measure / weigh / count it – then it’s probably not a record. In order to be valid, a new record title must adhere to our criteria and follow one of our formats.
 
So that’s why we got there nice and early and got all signed-up. Someone was also timing us when we were blowing on the party blowers. Being a world-record title holder only happens when there’s plenty of evidence.

Everyone must be doing the same thing at the same time, and for the same purpose: the power of collaboration at its best.

Of course, with every collaborative effort there is a win-win built in. Every child that came in on May19th received a free slice of cake and 40 free tickets! Chuck E. Cheese’s has brand new cakes with sweet frosting, rich cake and a splash of excitement with colored sprinkles!

Besides this amazing event in which we felt and witnessed the power of working together to make something big happen, Chuck E. Cheese’s also hosted a daily sweepstakes, leading up to the 40th birthday milestone (May 19). Chuck E. Cheese’s decided to grant unsuspecting fans a chance to win a free VIP birthday party experience.

The Chuck E. Cheese’s birthday experience is a wonderful one, because Chuck E. Cheese’s is America’s number one place for birthdays! I also had a milestone birthday in December and celebrated with my children and their friends at Chuck E. Cheese’s. 

With the VIP Party, you get the whole party area to yourself before the restaurant opens, for 90 minutes and you get 1,000 tickets for the birthday star. 

To enter the giveaway, Chuck E. Cheese’s friends and fans can upload an image of their receipt showing that they visited a Chuck E. Cheese’s between 4/10 and 5/19 for a chance to win the VIP party for up to 20 kids. Kids can also get 40 free tickets with a minimum purchase of $5.

But if you’re like me, you are probably busy, juggling 40 different things at once (pun intended) and you think Chuck E. Cheese’s is a weekend activity – and not just any weekend, either. You’re thinking he experience to order, eat, play, visit the prize counter, get the kids to leave, and everything that a successful birthday party celebration entails can take hours… and hours… and hours. Collaboration is your friend. You don’t have to do it alone! Just like record-breaking achievements take collaborative effort, so does everything else, especially motherhood. 

I loved seeing my daughters working together while playing, taking turns, sharing with one another, and joining other kids in the fun. When Chuck E. Cheese’s joins the kids in the fun, everyone starts dancing to the same beat, with the same dance steps, lighting up the place with their wonder and laughter. 

Maybe it’s one of my bizarre homeschooler theories, but I have experienced that the best lessons are taught while everyone is having fun. There are so many lectures, TED talks, workshops, and books about the power of collaboration, all filled with statistics, case studies, and lab work, yet I am grateful that my kids learned what we can do together when we unite for a common purpose in an atmosphere of laughter, passion, and enjoyment.
