Ask And Ye Shall Receive

Whether you call it the Universe, the Creator of the universe, a Higher Power, Spirit, The Light, The Mystery… most of us humans believe in an omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent power.

James 4:2 you have not because you ask not

Presumably, God (which is my name of choice for this undeniable force) could really easily give us anything we want. After all, He knows everything and has an infinite supply of everything… However, He insists we ask!

9And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. [Luke 11]

When I read The Secret, I learned about the “Law Of Attraction” and how the Universe is like a giant catalog from which we can get anything we want – from a lamp to a life partner or abundant wealth or health.

Even in The Secret approach, we have to ask and be very specific, focusing on what we want and voicing our intention.

Asking, seeking, knocking…saying positive affirmations, putting together a vision board or a dream journal… Why mustn’t we get what we want without the need for such protocol?

Some people say that prayer is a selfish act that involves merely the release of endorphins, paired with relaxation and meditation to make ourselves feel better.

Other non-praying movements are criticized for their “petty, self-serving” requests to the universe.

Praying or asking the universe is an act of connection. It’s an act of communicating trust – Faith. Asking  is a necessary step in exercising our free will or free agency to receive, attract, or co-create what we desire.

But there is more to Faith than just asking with certainty that you will get what you ask for…whether it is in the form of a miracle or an item straight off a page from the universe catalog.

  • Asking works when you ask in faith AND your actions are congruent with your request. You are not a powerless being. You are ultimately who will get things done after guidance is given.
  • Asking works when you communicate your spiritual, physical, financial and emotional needs; it’s not about telling God what to do about them.
  • They say “the best cure for wanting is gratitude“. Asking works when we surrender the outcome and are grateful for it, whatever it may be.
  • Asking works when we examine our intent. Are we asking for symbols, tools and vehicles or for transformation, expansion and evolution? Remember the saying “be careful what you wish for cos you just might get it.”
  • Asking works when we realize “matter does not matter.” If the presence or lack of something is causing you discomfort, don’t think you are bothering God or the Universe. Our existence was designed to be one of happiness and joy.

I believe God to be my Heavenly Father. As a parent, I know I want my children to come to me for anything they need and ask any questions they need answer to even when I don’t know everything and cannot always provide what they ask for or sometimes shouldn’t provide it as it is not in alignment to what I believe to be for their greater good.

It’s all about the bond and intimacy in our relationship. I am not all-knowing and most certainly I am not a mind reader, so asking others for what you want is necessary in order to receive what you desire from them.

The Bible reads “Ye have not because ye ask not”, other books read “Ask, Believe and Receive.”

Asking is the most powerful – and underestimated – secret to success, happiness,  achievement, peace, health, wealth and taking charge of your life.

I attribute all my spiritual, physical, financial, and emotional achievements to the pairing of prevailing prayer based on unwavering faith with guided actions towards the goal. How do you ASK?
