I’m so grateful that I was invited to a private advanced screening of the new Barbie Movie and I loved every second. So, I decided to share a collection of the best Barbie Movie quotes for inspiration and fun.
Some of these Barbie Quotes may be a bit spoilery, so feel free to skip to my Barbie Movie review for positive moms until you watch the movie. I’m also sharing a list of Barbie Movies in order to take us Barbie fans down memory lane.
About Barbie ( the 2023 movie)
To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place.
Unless you have a full-on existential crisis.
Or you’re a Ken.
The 2023 Barbie film comes to theaters on July 21st.
Greta Gerwig created a masterpiece as iconic as our beloved Barbie. I laughed, cried, giggled, blushed, and felt all the feels.
Note: I’m writing this during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The Barbie Movie would not exist without the labor of love of those who created these quotes and the people that brought them to life: the writers and actors in these unions.
Best Barbie Movie Quotes – Inspiration
Barbie has been inspiring the world since 1959. In the 80’s, when we had the means to afford a TV, I remember watching Barbie commercials and being in awe.
I had never seen women do what Barbie did. Or own what Barbie owned. I didn’t really care what she looked like, because she was living her dreams!
I broke up the Barbie quotes into two categories. Here are some that fall under inspiration and self-reflection:

And now for the LONGEST and BEST quote of all:
America Ferrara’s Character Gloria’s Monologue About Being A Woman in the 2023 Barbie Movie
It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don’t think you’re good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we’re always doing it wrong.
You have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can’t ask for money because that’s crass. You have to be a boss, but you can’t be mean. You have to lead, but you can’t squash other people’s ideas. You’re supposed to love being a mother, but don’t talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman, but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men’s bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you’re accused of complaining. You’re supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you’re supposed to be a part of the sisterhood. But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful. You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It’s too hard! It’s too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.
I’m just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don’t even know.
Positive Moms: Is the Barbie Movie appropriate for kids under 13?
Barbie Movie is rated PG-13 for sexual suggestions and some language. However, you know your child and your family, so here’s everything you really want to know in order make an informated decision:
Language
There is definitely swearing, although it wasn’t as much as you see in most PG-13 movies. There is the H, D, and F words, as well as the OM-gee expression.
Violence
You won’t find violence or gore. No blood, no weapons, and the fight are mostly entertaining and sports-themed.
Mature Content, Sex, Nudity, Romance
There is no romance in the Barbie Movie and not a single sex scene. Yes, you’ll see lots of Kens with their shirts off. But there is catcalling and some innuendos that are definitely referring to sexual acts. As you can see in the quotes, the words vagina and penis are mentioned.
Of coure, as you could see in the Barbie movie quotes above, the plot is heavy on themes about the patriarchy, feminism, and the gender wars. It also explores depression, thoughts of death, and corporate greed. There’s also drinking shown.
Barbie Movie Review: The Movie of the Year
You’ve already seen the memes and the pink. The Barbie movie is a viral sensation. But it’s not just the most anticipated film of the year, it’s definitely going to be the most memorable.
Barbie movie is silly, fun, and entertaining – and yet, it’s deep, dark, and dramatic. Everything we need right now.
The diversity, inclusion, and representation are strong in the Barbie movie. This is very reflective of the Mattel dolls, which is fantastic.
There were a couple of very noticeable brand partnerships: Gucci and Chevrolet. I really love how they achieved product placement in a movie about an actual product – a toy. The plot is fantastic and also a giant marketing effort. Just brilliant!
The movie absolutely brings Barbie to life. At Barbieland everything looks like your childhood dreams. There’s joy and fun … and societal issues that turn a toy into a political statement… and a sex object. Or maybe into an inspiring idol to emulate?
Barbie brings out the best and the worst in us and that can be toxic or lovely. The movie really highlights this in a beautiful way.
The soundtrack, the cinematography, every imaginative detail brought to life, and the carefully crafted words all elicit intense emotions. You will likely laugh hard and cry hard – and love it.

Honestly, this is such a mess of a film! Story gaps and lack of positive messaging for women and young viewers and HUGE missed opportunities. "Woke" people must be asleep on this.
