Did you know that making a well-thought-out decision is a milestone worth celebrating in the teenage years?
The Center for Parent and Teen Communication, which is based within the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, is teaching us to celebrate our teens’ milestones and be grateful for them.
The knowledge and skills the CPTC is offering to raise teens who are prepared to thrive are effective and science-based.
Learning about these milestones has truly inspired me to go inside and reflect, searching for these milestones in my memory, so I can celebrate my teen daughters.
Elisha and Elyssa are both very talented and skilled, and they are so different. Elisha knew where she was going to college and what she was going to major in well before she was in middle school.
Elyssa is multi-passionate, so deciding to become a filmmaker took a lot of thought – and she likes to take her time and follow her own process, too.
And this doesn’t mean that she’s abandoned her other passions. In fact, in the past two weeks, I’ve seen her make another careful and intentional decision.
She originally registered for a Broadway Collective workshop that was going to happen in Dallas, Texas – just about 40 minutes away from home.
With the tour being canceled, Elyssa weighed all the options and decided to go to Broadway’s Open, which is a more intense version of this musical theater training, actually happening in New York and it’s a bigger investment and commitment.
I’m so happy I get to celebrate these milestones with her!
