Connection is my highest core value, so being connected to my daughters is essential to me. Even with living in a society where parents spend an average of 7 minutes of meaningful interaction with their children, I’ve designed my life to include hours of daily connection with my daughters.
We talk about everything and have developed the sweetest bond. But something I have learned the hard way is that connection cannot happen when I feel weak or I feel like I have no energy.
As moms, we often neglect ourselves because we want to impact our children. That Aerosmith song for the movie Armageddon is like my life’s theme song: “I don’t want to close my eyes, I don’t want to fall asleep… cos I don’t want to miss a thing.” But I do need to sleep. And I need to exercise. And I need to eat. I’m a bit better at eating because I believe in family meals.
So one way I have found to make myself do things I don’t jump for joy at doing but I know are necessary is to find a way to relate it to something I’m passionate about.
Could I work on becoming healthy and strong while connecting with my children? I didn’t know I could until I was invited to try out the BodyBoss method. It’s a 12-week step-by-step exercise program that you can do at home, without having to go to the gym or use any equipment!
Because I have teen daughters, this training system is ideal because I can do it with them. It also fits into my active schedule, because I can be done with the routine in the time it took me to get to the gym when I used to have a membership (given traffic was light). You have stretches and cool-downs, exercise actively with fun and challenging High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) circuits for 24 active minutes, and do this 3 times a week.
There is an online version and a printed guide. I got access to the online portal but I also purchased the guide because I like workbooks. I feel that I can go through it and study it so I can follow the instructions better. I have learned a lot of exercise terms I had no clue about and the proper way to execute them.
The bonus free 4 week Pre-Training was perfect for me because I like feeling like I know what I’m doing and not jumping into things, but I do like the idea of being the boss of my own body and unlocking more energy, power, and fitness so I can be present and active in my daughters’ lives.
The BodyBoss system is very structured and it guides you through setting and tracking goals, day-specific routines, and education throughout so you don’t feel alone or wonder whether you are doing the right thing or whether you are doing enough. As moms we question ourselves enough already, don’t you think?
I really enjoyed the inspiration that is sprinkled throughout the fitness guide, because we all know that transformation starts from the inside out. Some of my favorite mindset quotes from the BodyBoss workbook are:
What comes easy, won’t last. What lasts, won’t come easy.
Stop planning, Start doing
Don’t look back, you’re not going that way
Your body is a reflection of your lifestyle
Do it for yourself, not for the likes
Take charge, make a change
Disrupt yourself
In preparation to start this exercise routine, I’ve been actually using affirmations to remind myself that my body is my temple and to open myself up to enjoy exercising, even if my daughters are not involved.
I feel that the exercises are designed to give you power, burn fat, and achieve strength, but the mindset work included in the guide helps move us through our objections to exercise. Here are some that have been mine:
It’s too cold outside
I don’t want to pay for a membership I don’t use
I don’t have enough time to devote to the gym
If I do go to the gym, I don’t understand what they mean half the time
I would rather spend time with my children
I don’t know how to exercise properly to do it at home
I talked to some moms about the BodyBoss guide and they were excited because some of them just feel intimidated, have had negative experiences at the gym, and others just don’t feel like it’s private enough, which is more like fear of judgment. Most of the moms I talked to didn’t associate exercising with being a better mom, but the truth is that when you take care of yourself, you are happier, more confident, and have more joy to share.
If you don’t enjoy going to the gym that doesn’t mean you are weak or lazy, it just means that you haven’t found a way to exercise that works for you. I encourage you to try the BodyBoss guide because you can feel and see the results almost immediately and it’s very easy to follow.
I am excited to continue the BodyBoss workout program and to continue sharing my progress with you. I was so happy to see the program was paying off so I could feel confident in my bathing suit during my recent trip to Castaway Cay in The Bahamas, and I was able to go through the 5K without being exhausted. I actually had a lot of fun!
What would life be like if you felt healthy, strong, and connected as a mom? You can do that in 16 weeks or less with the BodyBoss method, by swiping through your digital guide or flipping through the physical workbook. I encourage you to feel the #BossEffect in your life – it will be well worth it!

BodyBoss sounds like a great choice for me. I have got lots and lots of excuses for why I can't go to the gym. But this is squashing them all.

I appreciate the 15% welcome discount. I've never heard of Bodyboss but the whole program sounds very intriguing since it does not exactly require a gym or anything else impractical to get or achieve within 2 months.
