It’s hard to express what I am feeling right now. In the middle of sadness, turmoil, struggle, and pain, I feel immensely blessed.
During extremely difficult situations, and roadblocks on the journey, sometimes you expect an “are you okay?” or “I’m here for you” from people who turn their heads or only know to blame and judge.
The blessing for me is that it has been in those very moments when it actually became easier to spot the miracles and angels in my life.
I’d like to highlight a few angels in my life, selfless friends who have blessed my life so richly I couldn’t stay down if I tried.:
- The angel who drove me around everywhere when I had no car and no license. She was practically at my disposal, giving me hope and courage when I needed it most.
- The angel who called “to check on me” and upon learning we were struggling, she wired us money. When she went to the gas station, she scratched a lottery ticket and won the exact amount she sent for us to buy groceries and put gas in our car.
- The angel who bought me a computer so I could start my business, trusting I would eventually pay him back with design work. He also drove hundreds of miles just to make sure I bought the right car and got a good deal on it!
- The angel who, upon learning that I had surgery, offered to pick up the girls from school and meet me halfway, as she showed up with 2 delicious bowls of soup. One was vegan, to accommodate my daughter’s diet!
- The angel who took me in when I was feeling sad and lonely and didn’t know where else to go. She gave me direction, strength and a shoulder to cry on.
- The angel who gave me his beautiful old tree so my children could live the magic that is Christmas.
- The angel who traveled thousands of miles, multiple times, just to comfort me, keep me company and make me smile.
- The friend who spends her money and her time mailing goodies, letters, and documents my mom sends in her suitcase all the way from the Dominican Republic.
- The angel who gave me a bag full of mint-condition hand-me-down jeans from her daughters because “she was cleaning up their closets”, without even knowing what a massive blessing that would be for us.
- The angel who calls every single day to find out whether we are okay and happy.
- The angel who celebrated my daughters’ birthday At Large at her gorgeous house when I was crammed into a one-bedroom apartment and had no resources to do so.
- The angel who drove the girls to school and then took me patiently to the chiropractor when I hurt my back so bad I couldn’t even get up from a chair.
- The angel who offered to help me move my big furniture when she didn’t have a truck. I had moved everything I could doing trips with my car and she actually paid professional movers to bring the rest!
- The angel who tells me “I’ll do anything, I just want to see you smile” and instantly puts a smile on my face when I’m sad or upset. He embodies the phrase ‘always there for me’ in word and deed.
- The angel who never hesitated to lend me money when I couldn’t make ends meet and would sometimes show up with groceries or little toys for the girls to play with.
- The angel who followed me to the ER when Elisha shattered her elbow. She took Elyssa with her overnight, fed her, bathed her, and comforted her through this difficult time.
When I think of people who have made a difference in my life, I am thankful to say there are too many names and faces that pop in my mind. People who love me, my daughters, and my family.
Oh, what a difference it makes to know someone cares. Oh, how sweet are these tiny miracles, and how beautiful it is to know and testify that they happen all the time, everywhere? I am forever grateful to my friends, my angels, and God’s miracle-makers.

Love this blog, Elayna!! I am thankful for the angel Elayna in my life who writes a few words and lifts my spirits without even knowing me personally...... You truly are a positive mommy and I am so thankful for your generous gifts! There are so many times your words have reminded me how fortunate I am for my wonderful children, especially at times when I am not feeling as grateful as I should.
