When I moved permanently to the United States in 2001, I lived in San Diego, CA. Both Elisha and Elyssa were born there.
The talk of the town was the Christian band “Switchfoot”, which became quite a hit in 2003 (when Elyssa was born).
I remember the first single “Meant to live”. It was everywhere. The lyrics I want to share today are actually of another song, which was featured in the film “A Walk to Remember”, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks… my guilty pleasures!
The song “I dare you to move” is so inspiring and an incredible command to get out of depression.
“Welcome to the fallout. Welcome to resistance. The tension is here,
between who you are and who you could be, between how it is and how it should be…”
Our potential is really incredible but there is so much resistance and so much fear to take the next step. So much uncertainty: “What happens next?”
“I dare you to move. I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor”
I dare you to take action.
I dare you to get over yourself, to get out of your way.
I dare you to follow your dreams.
I dare you to choose the right when the choice is tough.
I dare you to be yourself.
I dare you to embrace change.
I dare you to stand up for what you believe in.
Sometimes someone has to dare us, encourage us, give us a “push”… It is so great to have that someone. It is even more wonderful to be that someone.
Through contributing to the lives of moms worldwide, I’ve learned so much from outstanding women and I pass along any gained wisdom to others. It’s a beautiful thing.
Today I actually saw the “A Walk to Remember” movie again. Of course, I cried. I listened to the song once more. This time, I also reflected on the verse:
“Like today never happened (before)”.
I learned that every day we have an opportunity to start over, to take another chance at love and at life.
I am making a conscious decision to act as if today never happened…when it comes to the trials, challenges, obstacles…anything that tempts me to stay paralyzed.
I think about my fears and they all have something to do with an episode of the past. Something that created that tension at the end of the day.
My technique will be to pray for strength to dare myself to move, to be free of fear and uncertainty, to trust…
How do you or will you make it happen? “SALVATION IS HERE”.
