Relying On My Favorite Things In Hard Times

I was one block away, at the stoplight, when I received the call. Elisha fell from the playground at school.

When I got there, the sight was not pretty. Her elbow was shattered and pretty much showing on her wrist.

She was in so much pain and had to have surgery. I was worried and exhausted; Elyssa had to stay with a friend.

I remember when we got home after the hospital and pretty much got settled, we all snuggled up on the couch, and all we did was read, watch movies, and play games.

We watched The Sound of Music. I had heard of it a lot, but never watched it. What a wonderful movie for the occasion!

Having a family is my favorite thing.
Snuggling up with “my sweethearts” is my favorite thing.
Coming home and knowing we are protected is my favorite thing.

Family makes everything less painful. Family makes everything right.

It’s the little moments that create lasting memories we can pass on from generation to generation. It’s the small things that we do that are the special ways that we truly tell our children how much we love them.

It is so true:

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

Obstacles come and go, but our favorite things and our favorite people remain, even when they are long gone or in a land far-faraway. They are in our hearts and in our minds and in our souls. They allow us to endure, overcome and find joy.

I am grateful for my favorite “things”. They are the only things that matter.
