27 New Mom Inspirational Quotes and Encouraging Words

If you’re a new mom, you know that it can be tough. In fact, for many of us, motherhood is the hardest thing we could ever do.

There’s so much to learn, and it seems like everyone has an opinion on what you should be doing. It’s easy to get down on yourself, but don’t forget that you’re not alone. Every mom feels this way at some point, especially when you’re a new mother.

That’s why it’s helpful to read inspiring quotes and words of encouragement from other moms. Collected here are some of our favorite inspirational quotes for new moms.

I hope these new mom inspirational quotes help you find the strength to keep going, day by day.

Mommy To Be Quotes And Sayings

Let’s chat about transitioning into your new life with a newborn baby:

“Before you were conceived, I wanted you. Before you were born, I loved you. Before you were here, I would die for you. This is the miracle of Mother’s love.” ~ Maureen Hawkins

Even the greatest spiritual teachers of all time could not teach you the meaning of unconditional love, but a tiny being growing in your womb can. It’s a miracle.

“You will never understand life until it grows inside of you.” ~ Sandra C. Kassis

This is a beautiful quote for a pregnancy announcement. However, I do want to point out that it does not acknowledge adoptive moms, foster moms, stepmoms, moms who miscarry, or simply those who offer mothering to others. Having experienced 4 viable pregnancies is a blessing and a privilege I strive not to take for granted.

“To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited. Soul and spirit are stretched – along with body – making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings.” ~ Anne Christian Buchanan

Oh yes… Everything stretches. And your heart grows more than 3 sizes, for sure.

“A mother is always the beginning. She is how things begin.” ~ Amy Tan

The power of motherhood is inevitable, and remembering this impact is a duty we must always be mindful of.

Having A Baby Quotes

So many beautiful and difficult emotions, questions, thoughts, and doubts arise when a baby is placed in the mother’s arms. It’s the greatest thing that ever happened to you and it’s equally humbling and confusing!

“Everything grows rounder and wider and weirder, and I sit here in the middle of it all and wonder who in the world you will turn out to be.” ~ Carrie Fisher

Mothering is the most important work we can do, and, as we do it, we must remind ourselves that we have zero control over what the outcome will be. Mothering is nurturing, protecting, caring, and providing the purest love to these special beings we are called to guide.

“A baby arrives, and just like that everything changes. The world gets bigger, the heart grows fuller, and life means more.” ~ Unknown

A new baby is the most beautiful gift, even when you’ve already had others. I always tell the story of how I found out I was 1 month pregnant with Elyssa when Elisha was only 4 months old. I wondered if I had enough love. And after a moment of doubt, I realized that loving my new baby equally was the easiest thing to do, even before I heard her tiny heartbeat for the first time.

“A miracle is the only way to describe motherhood and giving birth. It’s unbelievable how God has made us women and babies to endure and be able to do so much. A miracle, indeed. Such an incredible blessing.” ~ Jennie Finch

Even if you’re in your first pregnancy, you’ve probably already figured out that the motherhood journey is filled with hard days and much love. The power of this love gives us immense strength and carries us through sleepless nights, life changes, and life challenges we could never imagine ourselves surviving.

“Just as there is no warning for childbirth, there is no preparation for the sight of a first child. There should be a song for women to sing at this moment or a prayer to recite. But perhaps there is none because there are no words strong enough to name the moment.” ~ Anita Diamant

This is so true. The whole world stops and even if you had just been through the painful and hard work of labor or have been through the major surgery that is a cesarean section, you find yourself on a different dimension.

“Giving birth and being born brings us into the essence of creation, where the human spirit is courageous and bold and the body, a miracle of wisdom.” ~ Harriette Hartigan

This quote is so wonderful to me because I believe we are one with the Creator and we were born to create. Creating life is the creative experience of a lifetime, for sure.

First Time Mom Quotes

When you become a first-time mom, your entire world changes and you suddenly have the biggest job on the planet. These inspirational mom quotes can inspire you and provide assurance.

“Sometimes, when you pick up your child, you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart, that all the same, you could not live without.” ~ Jodi Picoult

These unexplainable truths are so profound. Through great times and hard times, a mother’s joy is immeasurable.

“Being a mother is the most rewarding blessing in the world, just knowing you can love someone so much, and get that same love in return is wonderful.” ~ Unknown

This quote is so true when they are tiny and mom is the center of their world. If you do a great job, they will become independent and have their own interests and identity. Being a good mother means you realize that parenting is not a reciprocal relationship and it’s not about what you get in return.

“The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children” ~ Jessica Lange

Truer words have never been spoken. LOL. Now, not being at the center doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t claim your place in the universe, albeit a bit off to the side. We must not lose ourselves in any task, especially not in the sacred calling of motherhood. Our goal is for motherhood to make us better, not bitter.

“Trust your gut, mama. If it tells you something is off, don’t ignore its warning. If it puts words in your mouth, speak them. If it points you in a certain direction, follow it. Intuition is one of the greatest superpowers of motherhood.” ~ Unknown

Now, this is one of the best new mom quotes I’ve read because a mother’s intuition can save lives. And it’s easy to ignore our own instinct as new moms and dismiss how much we know. Our intuition will always be the best way to find direction and guidance in becoming the good mom you want to be.

“The fastest way to break the cycle of perfectionism and become a fearless mother is to give up the idea of doing it perfectly—indeed to embrace uncertainty and imperfection.” ~ Arianna Huffington

Well, this might be a favorite quote right here. Striving to be successful mothers is a trap. Let’s strive to be loving mothers, healthy mothers, not perfect mothers.

If you come across any mom inspirational quotes that make you feel like you need to be better to be worthy, shake it off and move on!

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” ~ Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh

I live by this. I actually celebrate myself on my children’s birthdays. We don’t get an instant superhero cape when a child is born or brought to our home, but we do develop new awareness through unconditional love.

Encouraging New Mom Quotes

We all need encouragement in motherhood, even when we feel like being a mom is the best thing that has happened to us.

“Being a mother is discovering strengths you didn’t know you had, and dealing with fears you never knew existed.” ~ Sherene Simon

Amen to this times a hundred. Motherhood fears are probably a woman’s deepest fears. And this is true for all moms, whether biological or not.

“Whenever you feel like you are failing, look in the eyes of your child, and know your value.” ~ Unknown

I like this quote because our little babies and tiny toddlers can have that magical look that makes you melt. But beware of this one, too, because they won’t always look at you with that wonder. And when this sweet look is not there, you can still know your value when you look within.

“You’ll learn to lower your expectations about what you can accomplish in a day. Some days, it will be all you can do to keep a baby safe, warm, and fed, and that will be enough.” ~ Unknown

Oh yes… I want to sing the line by Eliza in Hamilton: That will be enough. Knowing I do enough and I am enough is one of the best realizations I’ve had as a mom. Society places very high standards and unrealistic expectations on mothers, but it is ultimately our choice to accept or reject them.

“To all mothers in every circumstance, including those who struggle, I say, be peaceful. Believe in God and yourself. You are doing better than you think you are.” ~ Jeffery R. Holland

I’ve been saying this for almost two decades now. That’s a long time – I know. You are always doing better than you think you are. It’s a fact!

New Mom Quotes Funny

Let’s bring a bit of laughter to this new mom inspirational quotes list:

“Having kids feels like that first seventh-grade crush that overwhelms every molecule in your body, but it’s permanent.” ~ Kristen Bell

I can so relate to this. I was 10 years old when I was in 7th grade, though. But yes, your hormones and brain chemicals are going nuts when you are a mom, especially if you’re nursing a baby!

“A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for.” ~ Anonymous

What a clever way to say the truth!

“Sleep is like the unicorn—it is rumored to exist, but I doubt I will see any.” ~ Unknown

What is sleep? Right?

“I like to think of motherhood as a great big adventure. You set off on a journey, you don’t really know how to navigate things, and you don’t exactly know where you’re going or how you’re going to get there.” ~ Cynthia Rowley

So exciting! LOL

Words Of Encouragement For Mothers

We all need help through motherhood and there are so many emotions we are navigating while being caregivers to these beautiful beings we call kids, teens, young adults, or grown people. These encouraging words resonated with me:

“It’s ok to be grumpy sometimes, to have bad days to struggle, to make mistakes, to say the wrong thing, feel overwhelmed and under-appreciated, to be out-of-sorts and sort-of-over-it all. It’s ok for us big humans, and it’s ok for our little humans, too. After all, we’re all humans, right? How else will our little humans learn that it’s okay to be human? Remember, we’re imperfect humans growing imperfect humans in an imperfect world, and that’s perfectly okay.” ~ L.R. Knost

Ahhhh… Does this come on a giant canvas and frame? Make this your daily reminder. It’s part of my practice, too!

“A baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years and in your heart till the day you die.” ~ Mary Mason

My firstborn daughter just turned 20 and my second just turned 19, and all I can say is – nothing has changed. I’m still feeling all the motherhood feelings and doing all the motherhood things, only differently… and harder.

“Being a mom has made me so tired. And so happy.” ~ Tina Fey

Yep. Being tired is something we must accept. This doesn’t mean we don’t rest, it just means we don’t argue with reality or resist what is.

“Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws.” ~ Barbara Kingsolver

This one needs no explanation, but what I will say is I believe that motherhood is a partnership with God. There’s really nothing you can’t do when your partner rules the universe. Am I right?

Inspiration for New Moms

I think we can all agree that it can be hard to be a new mom. The days are long and the nights are even longer. It’s easy to feel like you’re the only one who is struggling, but that’s not the case. It’s normal for a new mom to feel overwhelmed and exhausted sometimes and to wonder if she’s doing the right thing.

That’s why I wanted to share these inspiring mom quotes with you. My goal is that they will remind you that you are not alone, you don’t need to be that perfect mother, and that other women have gone through – and survived – this challenging time in their lives.

And I want to make sure you remember that we can feel joy, bliss, and peace even amidst all this struggle. We must hold on and hang on to those glimpses in our lives because they provide us great strength and they make it all worth it.
