The word Self-Worth originated in the 1650s, with self as a word-forming element that indicates “oneself,” and also “automatic,” and from the Old English weorþ “significant, valuable, of value; valued, appreciated, highly thought-of, deserving, meriting; honorable, noble, of high rank; suitable for, proper, fit, capable.”
The dictionary definition of Self–worth is “the sense of one’s own value or worth as a person,” and “the quality of being worthy of esteem or respect.” Dignity, self-respect, and self-regard are synonyms of Self–worth.
