Have you heard the expression “What I do TODAY matters because I’m exchanging a day of my life for it”?
I love it.
We’re always thinking about the future. Planning for the future. Setting goals for the future. Day-dreaming about the future.
Having a clear VISION of what you want for your life is not only a good thing, it is an essential step to achievement. As long as we are clear that today is part of eternity.
What we do today matters, but most importantly, how we feel today matters.
Imagine starving yourself for a month so you can save enough to go out to eat at a fancy restaurant. That is my analogy for working so hard you don’t ever see your family or spend time with them just so you can save up for an expensive family vacation. A family vacation that may not happen, or may simply not meet your expectations.
The way I see it, it is our responsibility to work happiness into our schedule.
I make it a point to spend time with my kids and to do the essentials: reading together, family prayer, the Philharmonic, playtime, fun adventures… How do you find time for your children, spouse, relatives, and friends?
The best things in life are free:
Sunrises, Sunsets, Walk at the Beach, Counting Stars, snuggle time…you name it.
The best things in life are NOT things!
Lance Armstrong said: “Time is limited, so I better wake up every morning fresh and know that I have just one chance to live this particular day right, and to string my days together into a life of action, and purpose.”
Let’s make our purpose to be happy, not just later or in the next life, but today, each day.
And to leave you with something powerful… The children are our future… they’re our today, too!
